April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)
Kate Ryan is a RI native currently based in New York City. She is an international human rights journalist and photographer covering immigration, gender violence, criminal justice and women’s health.
Her latest project, Signed X, featured in the New York Times, was born so that survivors of sexual violence could share their stories; the many ways violence has impacted them, their experiences around disclosing, and the hard work they’ve done to heal from their trauma. These are the words of long-term survivors, and they are edited from interviews and reordered for clarity.
Finally, they are signed with a first name or initial to protect the privacy of that individual.
The exhibition is traveling to various RI colleges during Spring 2019 and will be featured at JWU the week of April 28 through May 3, as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, in several locations: Downcity Library, Harborside Library, BRIDGE Center, and Graduate Student Lounge.
Sponsored by the Gender Equity Center, JWU Library, JWU BRIDGE and Graduate Business Programs. Contact the Gender Equity Center with any questions.
